Hello all!
Not sure this is a review, I purchased something that I wasn't completely happy with, so I figured that instead of just complaining, I might as well be constructive. I've recently been trying to branch out to different mediums for my cards (like exploring with distress inks and embossing paste) and my latest trip to Michael's, one I considered to be a "quick run", lasted for a full hour (eek!).
I restocked on essentials that I needed, but I also got a few things to play around with, like this embossing powder from Recollections™, which is a Michael's house brand. I put it in my basket and then back on the shelf about 5 times. My practical-self knew that it was probably going to be a waste of money but my naive-self kept saying, "but it's so red and pretty and I NEED IT".
Didn't know what carnelian was until I saw this- apparently, it's this dark coral, red-orange gemstone, and the powder also has a gold pearly shine.

Well I was swayed to side with my impulse-of-a-5-year-old-self and here we are. The look of the powder is dependent on the kind of card stock it's heat-set on. Here is a picture of the un-heated powder on three different colors of card stock (the ones that I use the most):

So far, I had high hopes. At this point, the only thing that I didn't like, was that even when I went over the area with some emboss-resistant powder (only on the white card stock), the Recollections™ powder left this iridescent gold residue behind. I didn't think much of it during these swatches, but I would've hated it on an actual card if I didn't intend to get any glitter on the rest of my project.

Time to heat-set, here are the results:
No more contrast on the black card stock :( *womp womp*
Something I noticed right away was that the level of opaqueness was not what I thought it would be, especially on the black card stock! I knew there was going to be gold sheen on top, but the color looks copper on the black and looks rust-colored on the craft card stock =/
But!!! I actually like it on the white card stock. The pictures really don't do it justice, the embossing is a poppy red with a pearly gold overtone on the white and it's very pretty :)

So there you have it. My mini-rant on a store brand product haha. I know that I was kind of asking for it, but oh well. Thanks so much for reading!
